That is the extraordinary power and the greatest value of the project. It is not a mock-up — everything is real and true. Viable microbes capable of starting a new evolution. They are in the fridge, dormant, at the very heart of the installation. These are archaea [5 species], bacteria [5 species] and fungi [1 species]. Aerobes and anaerobes — their unique features link them to the organisms that started current evolution 3 billion years ago. You can see in the photo also their optimal growth temperatures. On the lab table there is a small tablet comp. with movable description of all organisms, in form of a very slow (4min.) video running as a loop.

Eleven viable microorganisms inside the small fridge (4°C). The fridge has an upside mirror for easier vision. The organisms are as follows: Bacillus safensis subsp. safensis, Bacillus subtilis, Methanopyrus kandleri, Haloarcula marismortui, Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus, Deinococcus radiodurans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pyrococcus furiosus, Haloquadratum walsbyi, Chroococcidiopsis cubana, Geobacillus stearothermophilus.
